The Gem Hulk

Gem Hulks do not need to feed on gems, although it is their most common diet. When presented with, for instance, a cloak of ermine, a Gem Hulk will consume its opulence just the same, eventually expelling from itself a tattered linen shawl.
When struck with an opulent weapon, the Gem Hulk can save to pull it into itself. Every day spent inside the Hulk removes one opulent feature, until eventually it is expelled as a rusted unadorned version of itself. Magic weapons are not inherently opulent, although any with fine decoration or craftsmanship of particular note are. The Hulk does not strip the magic from a weapon, unless the magic serves some decorative function.
Gem Hulks are intelligent, although they cannot speak. They can detect opulent items at a range of 100’, and are generally not willing to leave a negotiation without having obtained all the food (opulence) they can from the opposing party.
